Domain Transfer FAQ

You've registered a domain name--yay no one else can have it! Now, you want to move the domain elsewhere. There are three types of transfers:

  • Incoming Transfers - transferring a domain name to
  • Outgoing Transfers - transferring a domain name away from
  • Internal Transfers - transferring a domain name between accounts

Here are the most frequently asked questions regarding transfers.


Incoming Transfers

How do I transfer a domain name to 

You can initiate and pay for the incoming transfer from within your account. More information here....

How much does an incoming transfer cost?

For incoming transfers, the cost will be specific to the domain name extension. Review our pricing page for transfer, renewal, and registration prices. The pricing page is for generic pricing, and does not included premium domain name specific pricing. 

Is the renewal of the domain included with the transfer?
In most cases, when you transfer a domain name to it adds one year to the expiration date of the domain name. However, if you renewed the domain name within 45 days of the transfer, then one year is not added. More information here...

Where is my domain name?

You will not see the transferred domain name under My Domains within your account until the transfer has successfully completed. During the transfer process, you can check on the status of your transfer from your Transfers in Progress page. To navigate there, follow these steps:

  1. Log into your account
  2. From the top menu, click the My Account tab, and select Transfers in progress

What does “Pending Your Approval” mean? 

If the status of your transfer shows as Pending Your Approval, that means that you still need to authorize the transfer by clicking on a link that was sent to the administrative email address on file for the domain. This email address is shown next to the domain name in the Transfers in Progress page. More information here...

The approval email is being sent to the wrong address! How do I change it?

The approval email is automatically sent to the administrative email address in the domain contacts. You can check which administrative email address is listed at Make sure the Whois Privacy is disabled so the approval link is sent to the correct email. More information here... 

The incoming transfer failed/canceled, where is my refund?

When an incoming transfer fails, the transfer fee is refunded as an account credit. This is so that if you wish to re-start the transfer, you can do so instantly without waiting the 3-5 business days that a full refund can sometimes take. If you don't want to reinitiate the transfer, you can use the account credit towards another purchase or renewal. More information here...


Outgoing Transfers

How do I transfer a domain name away from

You will first need to perform three steps with the domain name in your account, then you can initiate the transfer with the gaining registrar. More information here...

How much does an outgoing transfer cost?

Transferring a domain name away from does not cost any fee, however usually there is a transfer fee on the gaining registrar end. You will need to contact the gaining registrar to pay for and initiate the transfer. 

How do I unlock my domain? Why won't my domain unlock?

You can unlock the domain name from within your account. Remember, per ICANN regulations you must have the domain at least 60 days before you can transfer it to another registrar. More information here...

Where do I find the authorization/EPP code?

You can find the auth code from within your account. If the domain is not eligible to transfer, the auth code will not display. More information here...

How do I disable the Whois Privacy?

You can disable the Whois Privacy from within your account. The privacy will need to be disabled in order to receive the approval email for the transfer to be submitted. More information here...

How long does an outgoing transfer take?

Once an outgoing transfer has been submitted, it can take roughly 5-7 days. If you want to expedite this transfer, send an email to More information here... 

I transferred the domain, but it's still showing in my account?

After the outgoing transfer is completed, occasionally the domain will remain in your account for up to a week, but this is only a ghost image. These can occur due to a process that verifies the outgoing transfer was successful before the domain name is removed. You will not be able manage the domain in your account during this time. Internal Transfers

How do I internally transfer a domain name to another account? 

You will need to access the account the domain name is in, as well as have the account code of the account you are transferring the domain name to. More information here...

How much does an internal transfer cost?

Internal transfers are free of charge. 

Where do I find the account code?

The account code can be found on the domain dashboard from within the account.

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Click My Account and click My Dashboard.
  3. The account code is below the Username on the top right of the page.

How long does an internal transfer take?

Internal transfers are instantaneous. Click refresh in your account to see the domain appear. The owner of the domain will receive an email once the domain has been transferred. 

I received an error when trying to internally transfer my domain?

You cannot internally transfer your domain name until 5 days after registration/recent transfer. This is an anti-fraud measure that we cannot bypass. Also, ensure you have the correct account code. More information here...
