If you received a password reset email that you didn’t request, don’t panic!
Sometimes, these requests for password changes can happen when someone is mistyping their domain or username, using the lost password/username tools. What happens then is that if you are the owner of the domain name, or account, an email is sent to the email address in your Name.com account instead.
Just because a password request was sent does not mean someone has gained access to your account. The only way that someone would be able to get into your account would be if they also had access to the email address.
Here are a few things you can check if you suspect someone is trying to access, or have breached your account.
- Log in to your name.com account and make sure all your domains are still in your account and locked.
- Go to www.name.com/ip and write down your IP address.
- In your name.com account, go to the security section and pull up the login attempts. using your IP address and the date stamps you should be able to see if someone has been attempting or successfully logged in to your account. A failed attempt, or two, is no reason for concern.
- In the event that someone did log in or breach your account, or simply want to be on the safe side, change your password immediately and also change your email address password.
